The message of 1st Peter

• We've been born again to to a living hope & secure inheritance
• so, set your hope fully on the coming grace
• and, after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you

  • ...as living stones in God's temple...
  • ...as members of a chosen race...
  • ...as sojourners and exiles.
• ...submitting to all authority...
• ...in understanding, unity, love & humility to each other...
• ...bearing witness & proclaiming the hope of Christ
  • ...bearing witness, even when reviled, slandered & persecuted...
  • ...keeping watch, serving one another in love..
  • ...sharing in his sufferings/trials...
  • ...shepherding his church & submitting to one other...
  • ...humbling yourselves under the mighty hand of God

To Watch For

• The contrast of the dying world vs the living, exiled people of God
• Suffer for Christ, but not for doing evil or being rebellious
• "so that your prayers may not be hindered", "for the sake of your prayers"
